One of the best ways to make savings easier is to make it a competition! We find that it’s easier to start with little challenges instead of going 0 to 100 all at once. Here are a few ideas to challenge yourself in small ways:
Cut out frivolous spending
You can make a small but significant effort to save more by cutting out frivolous spending for a week. Frivolous spending means any spending that is unnecessary; something that you might consider an “extra expense.” Buying yourself a stylish pair of shoes or a new set of designer earrings would be considered frivolous for most people.
Don’t overspend on payday
Speaking of splurging on unnecessary expenses, a lot of people are tempted to overspend when payday comes around. It can be enticing to spend your paycheck on that one item you’ve had your eyes on for a while. However, it’s better to resist the urge to spend that freshly earned money, and put it into savings instead!
Skip the drive-thru
Another way to challenge yourself to spend less is to skip eating out at your favorite restaurant or getting that quick and easy meal at a drive thru. It’s sometimes difficult to find time during the day to prepare one meal, let alone three! Yet, extra spending on even one meal a day can quickly eat into your savings. Prepare your meals at home and skip the fast-food joints to see your savings grow!
Start challenging yourself today! The biggest obstacle in the way of saving is often us, so make a point to challenge yourself to stash away that extra cash as soon as you can. We’re here to cheer you on and help you stick to your smart saving habits.
